What happened today - Absolutely True Comics

Today we worked on storyboarding (comic draft 1.0) and drawing individual panels (comic draft 2.0), and went through upcoming project benchmarks on the "Patton Humanities" calendar, which you can access through your own google calendar (as you may recall, we set this up at the beginning of the year). You can also see my  reach through my DP here.

We also reviewed the "Student Guide to Absolutely True Comics" to remind ourselves of what the different draft numbers mean (that is, draft 1.0, draft 2.0, etc.)

If you weren't in class today, you should check all the upcoming deadlines in the calendar and make sure you have them in your own calendar or planner. You should also read through the Student Guide to Absolutely True Comics.

What happened today - Check ins

Today I continued my check-ins. These are short meetings with individual students, during which we draw up a check in sheet (you can see a sample here). These allow you to get answers to your specific questions, and help me to see your progress. You will receive a grade based on whether you meet the goals that we set at each check in, so please be aware of that!

What happened today - Internship (4th period only)

If you're in my 4th period class (Group D), we talked about internship (other groups talked about this with their fourth period teacher).

Here's what you need to know right now:
  1. For the time being, your fourth period teacher is your main point of contact for Internship
  2. By Friday, you need to have contacted three organizations, and filled in the Picopale Internship List

Upcoming benchmarks (you can also see these on my calendar)

Due by this Friday (March 1st)
  • All research complete (you should have your story sheet filled in)
  • Comic Draft 1.0 (Storyboard) written and signed off by Dr. P (you can see a prototype here)
  • Comic draft 2.0 (individual panels in pencil) with completed drawings of at least half the panels in your comic
  • First check-in with Dr. P should have taken place by now

Due by next Friday (March 8th)
  • Comic Draft 2.0 finished (by Tuesday)
  • Comic Draft 3.0: Pencil on 14”x17” vellum
  • Start Comic Draft 4.0: Ink the pencil drawing
  • Artist's statement drafts 1.0-3.0

Due the week after next
  • Tuesday, March 12: Comic Draft 4.0 complete
  • Friday, March 15: Comic Draft 5.0 complete
