We answered the seminar question in our Write Club notebooks, and watched a video about the Affordable Care Act. You can see these on the first two slides of this presentation. Tonight's homeworkUpcoming benchmarks"Absolutely Disgraceful?" essays resubmissions are due this Friday, November 1st, BEFORE SCHOOL. Check the presentation for information on how to resubmit. The Fault in Our Stars photo competitionWhat we did in seminar and classIn-class notebook work:
HomeworkMake sure to bring The Fault in our Stars on Tuesday. I suggest starting it this weekend, if you have time. If you're a little bit ahead of the reading schedule, that gives you some "padding" if there's one night when you aren't able to read at all. You can see the full reading schedule in my calendar here. Miscellaneous interesting stuffSharp-eyed viewers noticed that the video about healthcare costs that we watched (slide 7) was narrated by none other than John Green, author of The Fault in Our Stars. I've since learned that he's produced a great set of videos about US history! You can find them all here (shout-out to Mark Zemlany for telling me about these!)
Also, Ducks - we all watched an odd video about how to pronounce "Zeitgeist", and Cassilyn told me about how the same people that made the "how to pronounce zeitgeist" video made weird countdown videos. I read up on this, and found out it was part of a massive, three-year art piece. You can read about it here. What we did in seminarWhat we did in classWe did a structured academic controversy. You can see the protocol here, and the readings here. If you weren't in class today, read the readings, and write a double-entry diary about them. Your purpose for reading is either to come up with five good arguments FOR or AGAINST regarding healthcare as a basic human right. You can find the vocabulary words, CDC quiz prompt, and vocabulary quiz prompt in this presentation. In-class notebook workToday's notebook work was the seminar question, which is the first slide in this presentation.
Friendly reminder: You are responsible for all notebook work, even if you miss class. If there is anything that is IMPOSSIBLE to do because you weren't in class (for example, writing a reflection on a discussion that took place during class), write the heading for this assignment in your notebook, with a note saying you weren't in class that day.
