What you need to do
To ensure that we have an awesome seminar, I'll need the following (turn it in by putting it in the shared humanities folder here):
- The reading you are assigning to the class (I also need this by Monday)
- A plan for the seminar (How many groups? What size? Will we have observers? What about a "backchannel"?) I'm happy to help you design this, but I want to see what you guys come up with! I need this by Wednesday of Socratic Seminar Week)
- An essential question (You guessed it, also by Wednesday)
- And, from each of you: an “argument brief” that makes an argument for at least two positions on the issue that will be discussed, based on evidence from the reading (by Thursday)
- After the seminar, each facilitator will write a 1-2 page reflection about the process - what was positive about the seminar, and what can be changed so it works better next time. (I'll need this by the Monday after the Socratic Seminar)
