What is my "photo essay" supposed to be?
Your photo essay will provide a view of what it's like to do your job. In order to do this, you will take many, many photos during your internship. By the end you will be able to filter through these and pick 10-20 photos that best "tell the story" of your internship experience. Post these on your blog, with captions that explain them. Each caption should be no more than one paragraph long.
What should I take photos of?
Take photos of the following:
When should I start taking photos?
On the first day of your internship, explain that your mentor that you are required to create a photo essay as part of your internship, and find out from your mentor whether there are any restrictions on when you can take photos (for example, specific areas where cameras are not allowed).
Then, start taking photos on your first day! The more photos you take, the more you will have to choose from.
What do I do if I don't have a camera or a smart phone that can take pictures?
If there's no camera in your house that you can use, and your phone doesn't take pictures, talk to your mentor to see if there is a camera on-site that you can use to take photos.
If your workplace can't provide a camera, tell your teachers, and we will work something out.
How many photos should I take?
Take as many photos as you can without interfering with your job! The more photos you take, the more you will be able to choose from when you make your final essay, and the better your essay will be!
What will my final photo essay look like?
Your final Photo Essay will contain 10-20 photos, selected from all the photos you took during your internship. Your goal is for people who read your photo essay to feel "as if they were there" at your internship, so choose your photos (and write your photo descriptions) accordingly.
