Two last-minute cancellations meant I only went on one site visit today. Fortunately, it was very cool: I was visiting Daniel and his mentor Sara at the central headquarters of The UPS Store, in Miramar.
Daniel and Sarah told me about what they're doing over complimentary coffee in the canteen. Daniel's got two main responsibilities: moderating and responding to comments from UPS Store Small Biz Buzz Community, and researching digital signage on behalf of the company, looking at costs, benefits, drawbacks and ultimately making a recommendation to his managers. I was impressed by the level of work that Sara is having Daniel do - this is what a serious internship looks like! In fact, the first thing she told me was she wasn't letting anyone give Daniel menial tasks (the specific term she used was apt, but a bit too strong for this blog).
I got a tour of the building, including the "UPS University", where all new franchise owners undergo training. The tour ended at Sara's cubicle, where the two of them are both currently working (Daniel's excited to be working in a cubicle). You can read more about Daniel's internship on his blog, here.
